Schmalkald War

1546 July Schmalkald War begins.

This war was fought between Charles V and the Protestant princes of Germany from July of 1546 to April of 1547. The Protestant forces led by John Frederick, Elector of Saxony and Philipp of Hesse were ultimately defeated by Charles' army and Duke Moritz of Saxony was placed in charge of all of Saxony. Charles enforced Catholic rule by the publication of the Augsburg Interim.
