Above is Luther's study at Wartburg Castle. He composed his German translation of the New Testament here.

Wartburg Castle

1521 May Luther is kidnapped and taken to Wartburg Castle.

In May of 1521, on the way home from the Diet of Worms, Luther is "kidnapped" and taken to Wartburg Castle by Frederick the Wise's men in order to protect him from harm. He remains there until March of 1522. During the stay, he is known as Junker Jörg (Knight George) and translates the Greek New Testament into German.
