God's Miraculous Tenderness Towards Us
by Vittoria Colonna
Translated by Ellen Moody

God's miraculous tenderness towards us
when He made that harsh death on the bitter
cross goes beyond what by thinking it out
we can interpret, make sense of, or grasp;

but if a force outside nature, faith, from
God, illuminates the mortal heart and
dwells therein inherently we take in
the beautiful mystery completely.

Those who fasten their eyes only on Christ,
not the best minds, those who read the most books,
they will know bliss in God's elysium.

God's law isn't written on paper, but
formed and hewn by Jesus' burning chisel,
love's fire in the purged awakened heart.
