Born Thurcaston, 1484
Died Oxford, 1555
Significance Latimer was an outspoken preacher and leader of the English Reformation. He was converted to the reformed faith by his mentor, Thomas Bilney. He was the bishop of Worcester and was particularly powerful during Edward VI's reign. As Queen Mary came to power, he seemed to seek martyrdom as he refused to take refuge. He was burned at the stake with Nicholas Ridley on October 16, 1555.
